Cemeteries in Aylesbury Vale
Aylesbury Town Council manages the cemetery at Tring Road in Aylesbury. Buckingham Town Council manages the cemetery at Brackley Road in Buckingham. Exclusive Right of Burial
Exclusive Right of Burial covers burial within the specified grave for 99 years, but does not purchase the land from us.
Funerals
If a person dies in the Vale with no next of kin, we are responsible for looking after their estate.
For information call 01296 585044 or email: facilities@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk.
If you are struggling to pay for a funeral
A funeral is usually arranged through a funeral director. If you arrange the funeral you are normally expected to pay. Some people have a funeral plan or have saved up especially to pay for their funeral, alternatively friends and family members may be prepared to help out. If you are on income support, pension credit, or certain other allowances you may be entitled to a funeral payment from the Social Fund. Follow this link to the Citizen's Advice Bureau Advice Guide for more information.
Memorials
These may only be put on graves which have "Exclusive Right of Burial" attached to them. Deed holders may arrange to use stonemasons from the approved stonemason listing (which is added to on a regular basis as stonemasons join the scheme).
Masonry will be tested on a regular basis to check for stability and to ensure safety is not compromised within the cemetery grounds.
Download the approved stonemason list at the bottom of this page.
Memorial testing in cemeteries
We undertake a programme of memorial stability testing within the Tring Road Cemetery commencing in December 2006. We have to carry out testing as part of Health and Safety regulations.
Memorials that are deemed to present an immediate danger at the time of testing will be made safe. Making safe procedures will include supporting and restricting access to unstable memorials.
Owners of unsafe memorials will be notified of the steps required to secure memorials.
If you wish to receive further information regarding this process please call us on 01296 585088, or email cemeteries@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
We apologise for any distress which may be caused by this process.
Exhumations
These can only be carried out after an exhumation licence (for non-consecrated ground) has been obtained from the Home Office.
Consecrated Ground requires a Bishop's Faculty letter from the local Diocesan Authority.
