Smokefree guidance

If you are worried about the Smokefree legislation this is guidance to help you at home.

Will my home be required to be smokefree?

No. Private dwellings and private residential spaces are not required to be smokefree, except for parts of dwellings used solely as a place of work by more than one person.

I work from home. Will it have to be smokefree?

It depends. The law requires that any parts of a home will be required to be smokefree if they are used solely as a place of work for:

  • more than 1 person who does not live at the property
  • a person who lives at the property and any person who does not
  • any person whether they live at the property or not, if people who do not live there come to give or receive goods or services.
Can I smoke in my car?

Yes, the regulations do not extend to vehicles used primarly for private purposes.
