Energy Efficiency Loans from the Carbon Trust

Interest free loans between £5,000 and £10,000 are available to Small and Medium sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to invest capital in energy saving projects.

Eligibility Criteria

  • You must be a SME based in England and Wales and trading for more than 12 months.
  • Certain companies are not eligible such as those in the transport sector with activities linked to production, processing or marketing of agriculture or fisheries products and export related activities.

Energy Efficiency Loans are intended to encourage qualifying companies to invest in energy saving equipment that either upgrades or replaces existing facilities.

Also:

  • Energy efficiency loans are considered to be State Aid and are offered under the minimum  exemption to the State Aid regulations. The amount of minimum aid offered to any company in a three year period is limited to €100,00 (currently £70,000).

Types of project that qualify:

  • Energy saving lighting
  • High efficiency electric motors and drives
  • Boilers and heater controls
  • Building insulation
  • Compressed air systems and fittings
  • Insulation for boilers, hot water tanks and pipe work
  • Heat recovery systems
  • Lighting controls
