Thames Valley Police and Thames Valley Police Authority

This section is about how the police and police authority contribute to the community safety partnership

As you may expect, Thames Valley police (TVP) are at the centre of crime and disorder issues across the district, from crime reduction, through to neighbourhood policing, enforcement and detection.

Aside from day-to-day policing, TVP are involved in partnership activities to reduce crime and disorder. Such activities include the campaign to increase the reporting of domestic abuse, the drive to reduce burglary through increasing awareness and promoting crime reduction principles. There is also the partnership effort to reduce theft in Buckingham and Aylesbury with the use of cat bells, police community support officers (PCSOs) and a targeted marketing campaign.

Thames Valley Police Authority are an independent body made up of local people who help oversee the work of their local police force. The primary responsibility of Thames Valley Police Authority is to maintain an efficient and effective police service for the people of Thames Valley. Although the Authority has no involvement in the delivery of partnership activities, it does oversee performance and can call to account the work of TVP and the partnership.
