We are working with Thames Valley Police to reduce crime on the Bierton allotments in Aylesbury.

Over the last few months there has been reported shed break-ins and theft of vegetables from the Bierton allotments, Aylesbury. To stop this, Thames Valley Police and AVDC are working together to come up with a solution.

We are in the process of establishing an allotment watch so people are aware of the issues and can report any suspicious activity. So far we have formulated some crime prevention initiatives as well as giving out allotment watch cards to residents that overlook the allotments and to those who hold plots. The cards have contact details if there is suspicion that a crime is in progress.

Ways to prevent shed break-ins:

  • Property mark your tools and any other belongings. In the event that the property is stolen and then recovered by police, it can then be traced back and given to you.
  • Secure your shed door with strong mortice locks and if you have a window make sure that is secure also.
  • Don't leave tools on show. Seeing tools through a shed window may be all too tempting for an opportunist so think where you store your belongings.
  • A padlock or shed alarm may scare away a would be burglar.

Residents and plot holders should call 101 if they see any suspicious behaviour or dial 999 if they believe a burglary is in operation.
