This section of the website is about the initiatives we are involved in to reduce vehicle crime.
Whether a theft from your vehicle or theft of your vehicle, it’s less likely to happen in the Vale. A huge 50% reduction has impacted vehicle crime
Decreases in vehicle crime reflect national trends which show this crime reducing. Substantial reductions in the vale have been noted and are in part down to the success of the following initiatives:
- Caught red handed campaign publicised ways to avoid becoming a victim, increased awareness through signage and worked with local car parks to promote the campaign.
- Through the DVLA scheme in excess of 10’000 people were contacted due to them leaving valuables on view in their car. The letters inform vehicle owners of the risk of being a victim to car crime and practical advice on how to avoid becoming a victim.
- New automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) equipment has allowed the police to track and pursue stolen vehicles or vehicles wanted in connection with other criminal offences.
- Car park tickets raised awareness of vehicle crime and how to avoid becoming a victim.
If you want to know how to avoid becoming a victim visit vehicle crime section of our crime reduction advice page.
