As many as 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience domestic abuse at some time in their life. Domestic abuse is a hidden crime and often goes unreported, meaning victims keep being abused, offenders remain powerful and authorities such as the police don’t know the extent of the problem.
Aylesbury Vale is proud of the services it can offer victims and offenders, or even those who want to find out more. From training, countywide campaigns, information programmes and support for victims to a perpetrator programme for offenders. Whatever your situation, there is help and some of the initiatives below are a good starting point.
The Freedom Programme
- A free12 week programme providing information about domestic abuse to women
- Identify the signs of an abusive partner
- Make sense of what you have been through
- Empower yourself to make your own decisions, the programme doesn’t tell you what to do
- Gain confidence and improve your quality of life
- You can start the course at any stage of the 12 weeks
- Venues are discreet and not publicised
- There are crèche facilities during term time
The Aylesbury freedom programme can be contacted on 07789 045637. The programme has started to develop programmes for men but at present there is not a freedom programme for men in the Vale. If you would like further information on this please contact community safety at AVDC.
