Project grants to the voluntary and community sector

The Council's project grants to the voluntary and community sector can provide funding to:

  • Improve the range or quality of service provision or existing facilities
  • New Community or leisure initiatives
  • Promotion of community events and festivals
  • Training and development of staff and/or volunteers

For 2009/10 grants of up to £10,000 or 50% of the cost of the project (whichever is the lower) are available.

Our grant programme works on a discretionary basis, so depends on available finance.  The number of applications we receive are often in excess of available funding. Those that are successful show how their project meets the aims and objectives of the programme and will benefit the local community by meeting a particular need e.g. a gap in existing provision or activity.

Applications are assessed on a bi-annual basis by the Project Grants Panel.  Panel meetings are scheduled for September 2009 and February/March 2010. Closing dates for these panels are as follows:

31 July 2009, 11 January 2010

How to apply

Download and read the information for applicants at the bottom of this page.  If your project is eligible, contact the grants and voluntary sector liaison officer with a brief description of your project and the amount required. An application form can then be posted, or emailed, to you.

Initially you should discuss your ideas with the grants and vountary sector liaison officer.  They will be able to offer advice and assistance on how to develop your project and application, so that we are able to process your application as smoothly as possible.  The grants officer can also provide you with the necessary application forms.
