Recommended Village Pubs

The King and Queen at Wendover
Nothing sums up the spirit of Aylesbury Vale quite as well as the cosy country pub, of which thankfully there are many.
2011 Competition
The King and Queen in Wendover has been crowned the overall winner in Aylesbury Vale District Council’s Village Pub of the Year awards.
The annual competition, set up in memory of ex district councillor Ted Payne, marks the important role a village pub plays in the local community, particularly where there are few other meeting places in the village, such as a shop or post office.
With more than 600 nominations for over 30 pubs across the district, the judging panel had the difficult task of picking winners in the four different categories.
All finalists are featured in the 2011/12 Aylesbury Vale Recommended Village Pubs guide, which is available to download at the bottom of this page and from tourist information centres and other outlets across the Vale.
2012 competition
Nominations for the 2012 competition have now closed. Between May and September the volunteer judging panel will be assessing the nominated pubs and the finalists will be announced in Autumn 2012.
