The Economic Development Action Plan was produced following the Economic Development Strategy, prepared by Roger Tym & Partners in 2004.

The plan highlights six key focus areas for the period 2004-2007:

o Marketing and branding,
o Investment and town centre redevelopment,
o Spatial planning and employment sites,
o Infrastructure investment,
o Enterprise and business support
o Further education, higher education and key skills.
