Terms of reference of this committee

In contributing to managing the built and natural environment this committee aims to achieve the following outcomes:

A reduction in waste going to landfill.*

  • Ensuring high quality, sustainable development, that minimises the impact on the environment.
  • Public areas that are well maintained and enhanced.*

* Focus for investment and improvement in the medium term work programme.

In doing this the committee will undertake the overview and scrutiny function in relation to:

  • policies and strategies of the council and other bodies which affect the physical development of Aylesbury Vale including land use and transportation
  • assisting in the development of the council's planning policies (including the district-wide Local Plan and other plans for the use and development of land)
  • assisting in the development of the council's community plan to promote the environmental well-being of Aylesbury Vale
  • the provision, planning and management of the council's planning services, design services, cemeteries, waste management, street and toilet cleaning, parks and open spaces and countryside management
  • the implementation of policy framework plans as they relate to the remit of this Committee Plans and Strategies which together comprise the Development Plan, Local Agenda 21 Strategy
  • reviewing and reporting to the cabinet on the authority's performance against the best value performance plan as it relates to the remit of this committee
  • all AVDC's licensing functions
  • all AVDC's environmental health functions.
