Keeping your vote if moving abroad

If you are a British citizen and you are thinking of living or working abroad, you may still be able to register to vote at Parliamentary elections from your last address here. Your right to vote in this country's elections can last up to 15 years. At the time of an election you can choose to vote by post or proxy. You can download a copy of the overseas elector registration form and guidance for completion by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.

Overseas voters can also vote by post or by proxy. Postal votes are only sent out about 10 days before election day so you will need to consider whether this gives you enough time to return your ballot paper. It may be better to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf.
