Below is an outline of the role and responsibilities of the Electoral Registration Officer.
The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) is the official with responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the register of electors and lists of absent voters within their area.
The appointment of the Electoral Registration Officer is prescribed in Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act 1983. In England, the council of every district and London borough is required to appoint an officer of the council to be Electoral Registration Officer. In Aylesbury Vale the District Council's Chief Executive is the Electoral Registration Officer.
