Use water wisely
It is often perceived that the UK benefits from a plentiful supply of water. However, England and Wales actually have less water available per person than some Mediterranean countries.
Demand for water continues to increase, so it's vital that we all use water wisely.
The first step is to work out how much water you are using and and then putting simple measures in place to cut the amount you use, which will also have the added benefit of cutting costs. You can also reduce the hidden, indirect costs of water use such as the energy used for heating, pumping and treatment.
Minimising water use in your business can require financial commitment. However, many measures are cheap and simple to implement and could potentially save you up to 50 per cent of your water costs. Water may be costing your business more than you think. Few businesses identify water as a raw material that is paid for twice - to receive it and to take away the waste.
By reducing water consumption you can also reduce the carbon footprint of your business, for example, for every cubic metre of water saved, you will save approximately 1kg of CO2 equivalent.
