Council Greenhouse Gas and Carbon Dioxide Emissions
Carbon Dioxide
The council has a 5 year target set under its Carbon Management Plan that was agreed in 2008 of a 22% carbon dioxide reduction from a baseline fixed in 2007/08 of 7,753 tonnes. As at March 31 2011, the council has achieved an overall 17.1% reduction in the 3 years from 2007/08 and a 6.34% improvement on last year’s figures. This is for the council’s buildings, fleet of vehicles and business car use.
Greenhouse Gases (GHG)
The council is now (2011) encouraged to produce its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions which are a basket of 6 gases that were agreed at Kyoto, Japan in 1997 in the Kyoto Agreement and include carbon dioxide. The council's GHG emissions to 31 March 2011 have reduced by 6.21% since 2009/10. This is also for the council’s buildings, fleet of vehicles and business car use.
Details of the scopes used to group the GHG emissions are set out below:
Scope 1 -
• Council offices/ buildings (Corporate buildings) - gas consumption
• Aqua Vale and Swan pool - gas consumption
• ATG Aylesbury Waterside Theatre - gas consumption
• AVDC fleet - fuel consumption - number of litres
• SITA fleet - fuel consumption - number of litres
• JOC fleet - fuel consumption - number of litres
Scope 2 -
• Council offices/ buildings (Corporate buildings) - electricity
• Aqua Vale and Swan Pool - electricity
• ATG Aylesbury Waterside Theatre - electricity
Scope 3 -
• Business mileage
• Embedded emissions (well to tank) gas - all council estate and leisure
• Embedded emissions (well to tank) fuel - AVDC, SITA and JOC
• Embedded emissions electricity - all council estate and leisure
• Embedded emissions business mileage
