6 Temple Street - Grant aided improvements
6 Temple Street is the first building to complete work under the Aylesbury Town Centre and Conservation Grant Scheme. Grant aid was given to repair and repaint the historic shop front which included replacing the signage and lime washing and rendering the plinth below the shop window. For more details about this and other grant aided schemes download the Case Study sheets at the bottom of the page.
Aylesbury is an historic market town. In recognition of its special architectural and historic interest, parts of the town were designated as a Conservation Area in 1969. In 2004 the Conservation Area was reviewed and extended.
Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) is keen to ensure that Aylesbury Town Centre Conservation Area remains an attractive place to live, work and shop. Poorly maintained buildings damage the overall character and appearance of the area and can damage the vitality of the town centre as a whole.
AVDC has set up a 3 year grant scheme, in partnership with English Heritage, to help property owners and tenants maintain their historic buildings and to improve the character and appearance of the Conservation Area.
The grant scheme covers a part of the Conservation Area comprising Kingsbury, Market Street, Temple Street, Temple Square Buckingham Street, Cambridge Street, and the upper end of the Market Square.
If you are considering improving or repairing your property and your building falls within the Aylesbury Town Centre Grant Scheme boundary contact the Conservation Areas Officer as detailed below to find out whether your building would be eligible for a grant.
