Environment Agency (EA) – Contaminated Land
The Environment Agency’s contaminated land information pages. Local Authorities work closely with the Environment Agency on contaminated sites that pose a specific risk to water courses. The agency also publishes guidance and procedures for local authorities dealing with contaminated land.
Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) – Contaminated Land
Defra’s land quality information pages. They are responsible for producing the primary and secondary legislation for contaminated land and also produce research and guidance documents.
Her Majesty’s Stationary Office (HMSO)
HMSO are the organisation responsible for the access to acts of parliament and statutory instruments. Technical documents can also be ordered from the HMSO website.
Health Protection Agency (HPA)
The HPA work closely with the NHS and provides advice to government departments and local authorities on human health effects from chemicals and contamination.
Environmental Protection UK (Formally National Society for Clean Air)
Environmental Protection UK is a national membership based charity and have been playing a leading role in environmental protection in the UK since 1898. A very good source of impartial information on all aspects of contaminated land.

CIRIA’s contaminated land information site. The site includes may links to further sources of relevant information. CIRIA are a research organisation concerned with improving the performance if all those involved in construction and the environment.

CL:AIRE is an independent not-for-profit organisation established in 1999 to stimulate the regeneration of contaminated land in the UK by raising awareness of, and confidence in, practical and sustainable remediation technologies
