What is Housing Advice?
The Housing Advice Service offers free, confidential advice on a wide range of housing matters to anyone within the district who has a housing problem.
AVDC offers two types of housing advice;
The Housing Advisors can assist with the following issues:
- relationship breakdown and implications
- domestic violence
- housing conditions / disrepair
- tenant rights
- harassment and illegal eviction
The Housing Debt Advisors can assist with the following issues:
- debt problems
- rent or mortgage arrears
- income maximisation
- repossession hearings
I am at risk of losing my home, can you still help?
Yes, if you think you may be at risk of losing your home you should seek help from a Housing Advisor as soon as you can. It may be possible, with the right advice when the problems first begin, that the loss of your home can be avoided.
Even if you have been given a Court date for repossession (rented or mortgaged properties) our Housing Debt Advisors can assist in Court. They attend the Court desk every Tuesday to assist people due in Court. For more information on how the Debt advisors can help please see the link below to the Debt Advice webpages.
AVDC also has a Housing Options team that can offer advice on your Housing Options.
How do I contact a Housing Advisor?
You can visit the AVDC offices which are based at 66 High Street, Aylesbury. You will initially be seen by a Customer Service Advisor who will try to advise you on your enquiry. If they are unable to help they will then refer you to a Housing Advisor. If a referral is made, a Housing Advisor will aim to contact you with an appointment within five working days.
If it is easier you can ring us on (01296) 585168 and we will make a referral for an appointment.
Please follow the links below for some useful publications related to housing advice. The link to Shelter's website provides information about local advice provision in Aylesbury Vale and the surrounding areas.
The Mortgage Rescue Scheme is a government initiative designed to help you if you are struggling to keep up with your mortgage payments. If you believe you may be eligible for this scheme please contact us so we can undertake an assessment.
