Silver Birch Way
Even though we no longer have our own housing stock it is still important to us that we continue to plan for and enable the delivery of new affordable housing in the Aylesbury Vale area.
Affordable housing, which is usually social rented or shared ownership, is aimed at people on low incomes who are finding it difficult to access housing on the open market.
House prices and private sector rents in Aylesbury Vale, like the rest of the South East, are often beyond the reach of those on low or even average incomes. Demand for affordable housing in Aylesbury Vale currently exceeds provision, as indicated by sources such as the Joint Housing Register and Bucks Strategic Housing Market Assessment. However we are also working with our neighbouring councils, such as Milton Keynes, to achieve the Government's vision for significant housing and economic growth in this area.
The Strategic Housing Team works with partners such as housing associations and the Homes and Communities Agency to enable affordable housing to be built in the district. We also research and prepare housing related strategies in consultation with our partners and the community to ensure that current and future affordable housing in the district meets local housing needs. Another important aspect of the Strategic Housing Team's role is to regularly monitor the local housing market collating information on key statistics, such as average local salaries, average house prices and rents to inform decisions made on affordable housing development and housing strategies.
Below you will find copies of our most recent housing strategies. If you would like more information on the Bucks Strategic Housing Market Assessment, which is a study of current and long term trends in the Bucks Housing market, please follow the link below.
Local authorities are required to produce a tenancy strategy, as stated in the Localism Act 2011. A tenancy strategy is a document which outlines what local authorities expect from registered providers of social housing in relation to the types of tenancies they will offer when delivering and letting accommodation in the authority’s district.
Registered Providers are also expected to produce and publish their own Tenancy Policy which will provide further information on areas including the types of tenancies offered, the renewal of tenancies and the level of rent.
The four district councils in Bucks (Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe) have worked on a joint tenancy strategy in order to adopt a consistent approach to the strategy across all four districts.
A copy of the strategy is available to download below.
If you would like any further information please contact us on the number below. For more detailed information on the affordable housing development that is going on in the district please see Housing Development - Affordable Housing.
