Culture Strategy

Our cultural strategy has been widely consulted on and revised to reflect the broad response and needs of people in Aylesbury Vale. The key themes of the strategy offer a way forward for everyone in the district, regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, socio-economic status, or geographical location.

It looks at the range of leisure and cultural issues facing people living and working in Aylesbury Vale, setting out the role of culture in addressing social, health, economic and development challenges and will be reviewed regularly to embrace changes.

Our definition of culture is broad but includes sport, countryside, the arts, tourism, play and heritage, as well as entertainment, food, fashion and the media. The strategy will focus on the cultural needs, demands and aspirations of an area, will set direction and priorities for funding bodies. It will act as a framework for performance review and will act as a lever for gaining funding from external agencies such as the Lottery.

The key themes of the Aylesbury Vale Local Cultural Strategy are:

• Providing the cultural, transport and economic infrastructure for the growth of Aylesbury Vale District
• Access to cultural opportunities in the rural areas
• The development of participation, and the celebration of excellence, in cultural activity by young people (and the benefits in terms of crime reduction, educational attainment and future healthy habits that this can bring)
• Maintaining, developing and celebrating the diverse cultural identity and sense of place and history of Aylesbury Vale
• The lack of equality of opportunity in certain areas of the district and for certain groups
