Peregrine Falcon in flight

They're back! Live feed of peregrine falcons nesting in Aylesbury.

Aylesbury’s peregrine falcons captured the imagination of people across the country last year when AVDC’s Biodiversity Team constructed a special platform on the top of the County Hall building which replicates the birds’ natural nesting habitat on the edge of a cliff.

Video footage inside and outside the platform showed the journey of the peregrines, from laying their eggs through to their young becoming independent and leaving the nest.

Live Feed

Now these magnificent birds have been sighted once more and are preparing for the mating season where they should return to the nest.

Watch our live feed of the peregrine falcons by going to the Peregrine Falcons webcam.

Over the coming months we’re hoping you will see these magnificent birds incubate their eggs, hatch chicks and rear their young.

Eggs are typically laid in late March or April at 2-3 day intervals and normally 3 or 4 are laid with both the male and female sharing incubation duties. Eggs take between 29 and 32 days to incubate. Once hatched the female will brood and feed the young, while the male keeps up a steady supply of food. After 2-3 weeks, when the chicks are bigger, both parents share hunting duties supplying the young birds supplied with food.

The young birds fledge at 35-42 days when they are then taught by the adults to hunt and handle prey in flight. June and July will the best time to see the birds flying around the nest in the centre of Aylesbury.

The chicks become independent after about two months. They will then seek out their own territories and mates as they mature. Only about 1 in 3 birds reach breeding age and usually survive for about 5-6 years.
