London 2012 Paralympic Flame Festival

Stoke Mandeville Stadium
28 August at Stoke Mandeville Stadium
Stoke Mandeville will play an incredible role in this year’s London Paralympic Torch Relay.
The first flame will be lit in London on Friday 24 August with Greater Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff following suit over the Bank Holiday weekend. After the lighting ceremonies, each city will stage a Paralympic Flame Festival, public events with plenty of entertainment and activities, including lantern processions created by local community groups.
The four countries’ flames will visit local community groups and key locations in and around their home city. All four flames will travel to Stoke Mandeville, Buckinghamshire, birthplace of the Paralympic Movement on 28 August. Four flames will become one at a special evening ceremony at Stoke Mandeville Stadium to create the London 2012 Paralympic Flame. A spectacular celebration will take place at both Stoke Mandeville Stadium and Aylesbury Town Centre, whilst the 24 hour relay will see 580 Torchbearers, working in teams of five, transport the Paralympic flame from Stoke Mandeville, to the Olympic Park for the opening ceremony on 29 August.
More detailed information will be available closer to the event date.
