Aylesbury Vale Green Infrastructure Strategy
Aylesbury Vale Green Infrastructure Strategy sets out principles for the management and creation of accessible green infrastructure. The Strategy has been produced in partnership through the Buckingham Green Infrastructure Consortium which includes AVDC, partner organisations, local Authorities, charities and community groups who will work together to deliver the flagship projects. Implementation of the action plan will be coordinated through the Buckinghamshire Green Infrastructure Consortium, which includes Natural England, the Forestry Commission, Bucks County Council, the Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency. The consortium will consider new flagship projects as and when they arise.
The flagship projects have a variety of aims to benefit wildlife, increase accessibility to green spaces, and to protect and enhance historic landscapes. They set out the long term aspirations for green infrastructure across the district and its associated action plan will enable AVDC to be in a strong position as and when funding becomes available. The delivery of these projects demonstrates the Council’s key role in making the Vale the best place in which to live and work and highlights our ambitions beyond the creation of landmark built facilities. Organisations have been identified to lead project teams where they either own the land or they have the most relevant expertise. AVDC is the lead organisation for five of the projects as it either owns the land where the project will be located or is the lead organisation with the most relevant expertise. (Aylesbury Linear Park, Local Nature Reserves, Regional Wetlands Park, Trees Please and Vale Park).
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “There’s a well-established link between green spaces and the quality of life. We know, for example, that the reason many people enjoy living in the Vale is because of the easy access to the countryside and its high quality parks. The strategy aims to ensure that green spaces enhance the local environment, are accessible, attractive, safe and enjoyable to visit.”
