Description

This is an active park, full of exciting facilities including the Aqua Vale Swimming and Fitness Centre complete with its outdoor pool, leisure centre, competition pool and gym. A play area was recently installed, followed by a 'teen' play area, new tennis courts, a multi-use games area and a bowls green. There is also a skatepark facility, but the park still remains a green and tranquil place close to the town centre.

The playground is suitable for children between the ages of 2 and 12 years. The teen play area from 13 upwards.

To make sure that all users remain safe in the play areas, each site is inspected weekly. An annual inspection is also carried out by an independent body such as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) or the National Playing Fields Association (NPFA) who prepare a safety audit and a report which is used to plan any long term maintenance.

The Vale park warden's hours of work are 11am to 1 hour before dusk.

Vale Park, along with Bedgrove Park, has been awarded a prestigious Green Flag Award this year, the national award recognising high quality parks and open spaces.

The outdoor bowls rink is located in the Vale Park in the centre of Aylesbury and has recently undergone substantial redevelopment work, largely funded by the  Heritage  Lottery. The green has been starred to enable competition play as well as daily casual usage. AVDC Staff Bowls Club is the established resident team who openly welcomes members of the public to join the club, details of which can be sought from the Park Warden. The green boast 6 rinks which are available for use (subject to availability) and bowls equipment can be hired from the leisure centre if required.

The rink is open for use 7days a week from 1 May each year and is open from 10am to approximately 8pm, dependant on light conditions. Please contact the Aqua Vale Swimming and Fitness Centre for any further information on the use of the Bowls Green .

Vale Park Re-development

For information on the redevelopment plans for Vale Park, download the PDF file below.

The most recent phase of Vale Park’s redevelopment is now complete and has been very successful in making the Park a more inviting place for all to visit. The new entrance has strengthened the link between the Town Centre and its park, while the new avenue makes walking through the park more pleasant and highlights two features; the old Kingsbury drinking fountain and the Axis sculpture.

There will be some horticultural works taking place ahead of summer 2010 including planting of Liquidambar trees along the new avenue, removal of some shrubberies, and creation of new planted beds near to the new entrance.

In the longer term, as funding is secured, further improvements will include lighting of the main routes through the park and renovation of the railings & brick piers along the High Street.
