Requesting a new Tree Preservation Order
The principal effect of a TPO is to prohibit the cutting down, uprooting, topping, lopping, willful damage or willful destruction of trees without the Local Planning Authority’s consent.
If you want the Council to consider making a new Tree Preservation Order to protect trees that you consider under threat you should write (fax or email is fine) to the planning department.
To assess your request we will need to know:
• the exact location of the tree/s
• why you consider they are important
• what is the known threat which exists to them
Following this request the planning department will ask the tree officer to evaluate the tree or trees outlined in the request to ascertain whether they are worthy of a TPO status and will formally advise the planning department. The planning department will make the decision whether a new Tree Preservation Order is made.
