Tree planting

The Tree Officers have a programme of winter tree planting schemes throughout the district for the next five years which usually equates to approximately £8,500 a year. Over the past 10 years the council has planted thousands of trees on the district’s streets and parks. Improved air quality, better wildlife habitats, masking of noise and enhanced views are just some of the benefits that trees bring to local communities.

Each summer a schedule of tree planting for the coming winter is finalised through public consultation. Local residents are consulted on proposed tree planting schemes via press articles as well as site notices on open spaces during the summer. Following this consultation tree planting schemes are finalised and work items issued to our contractors in late autumn for the winter planting.

The council would like to hear from anyone, especially young people, who may have suggestions for tree planting locations. Please forward your suggestions and comments to the Green Spaces Team using the contact details at the bottom of the page.

Annual Tree Planting Consulation.

The 2011/12 planting consultation is open until 31 August 2011, details can be found on the page linked on the left and updated each year.
