Kellogg's Swim Active Project

Kelloggs Swim Active Project
The ‘Kellogg’s Swim Active’ project, which is being led by the Sports Development team at AVDC and working in partnership with the Bucks & Milton Keynes Sports Partnership and Serco, has had a highly successful launch. The project, which aims to increase swimming participation by families and raise awareness of the swimming facilities that are available within Aylesbury Vale, is now in week two of delivery and has had over eighty participants thus far.
The project was launched on Saturday 15 July at the Aqua Vale Pool in Aylesbury. The free session was attended by 30 participants who enjoyed a half an hour lesson and half an hour family-fun time. The event was also attended by Councillor David Thompson, Councillor Freda Roberts MBE and the ASA regional director Eli Karlica-Cook who all were happy to take the time to support the project.

The Sports Development Manager at Aylesbury Vale District Council, said;
“It has been great seeing so many young people, and their parents, being active together and enjoying the sessions. This funding has allowed them the opportunity to access swimming, which is not only a life skill and great fun but also a great way to stay healthy. I really hope we can encourage as many families as possible to take advantage of these opportunities”.
The project has also given young people from the local swimming clubs, and secondary schools, the opportunity to volunteer within sport. Sixteen volunteers attended a one day introductory course into swimming teaching and are now applying these skills within the project. Overall there are twenty-one young volunteers taking part in the project and without the help and encouragement they give to the swimmers, the project would not be such a success.

Future sessions will run throughout the remainder of the summer school holidays. They are available to families, with primary aged children between five and eleven, who live in either Quarrendon, Gatehouse, Southcourt or Walton Court wards. Each session is £1 per participant and transport has been made available for free.
