The Unicorn, Cublington

Nothing sums up the spirit of Aylesbury Vale quite as well as the cosy country pub, of which thankfully there are many.

The annual competition, set up in memory of ex district councillor Ted Payne, marks the important role a village pub plays in the local community, particularly where there are few other meeting places in the village, such as a shop or post office.

2013 Competition

The nomination process closed on 17 May and the judging process has commenced. The finalists and winners will be announced in October.

2012 Competition

The Unicorn in Cublington was crowned as this year's overall winner in Aylesbury Vale District Council’s Village Pub of the Year awards.

With more than 750 public nominations for over 30 pubs across the district, the judging panel had the difficult task of picking winners in the four different categories. The pubs were judged on a number of criteria including their overall character, friendliness of staff, quality of food and drink, community spirit and family facilities.

All finalists are featured in the 2012 Aylesbury Vale Recommended Village Pubs guide, which is available to download at the bottom of this page and from tourist information centres and other outlets across the Vale.

The Village Pub competition is sponsored by Dayla.
