The Visit Buckinghamshire Partnership invited residents and visitors to submit photographs of the county to help promote Buckinghamshire as a tourist destination and to encourage local people to explore the area in which they live. The competition closed at the end of September 2011 with a large number of entries and a beautiful range of photos.

Presentation and prizes

The photographs were judged by an experienced professional photographer, the editor of Vale Life Magazine and 2 tourism officers from AVDC.

The three finalists were presented with their prizes at the Aylesbury Tourist Information Centre (TIC), located in The Kings Head, off Market Square on 12 November, with press coverage from the Bucks Herald. All of the photographers who entered into the competition were invited to attend the presentation, see their photographs and sample the refreshments and gifts at the TIC.

The winning photograph by John Barton from Quainton was chosen to front 25,000 copies of the Visit Buckinghamshire Visitor Guide attracting visitors to the area. He also received an A2 print of his winning image provided by Snappy Snaps and a voucher from PhotoExperiences. Aylesbury residents Darrell Jordan and Stephen Thorpe were named runners-up in the competition, who both received A2 prints of their photographs.

Visit Buckinghamshire Visitor Guides

The Visit Buckinghamshire 2012 guide, which is produced by Aylesbury Vale District Council in partnership with Wycombe District Council and Bucks Business First, is distributed all over the UK. Its aim will be to boost the value of Buckinghamshire’s visitor economy currently worth more than £1 billion.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure at AVDC, said: “It was very difficult to choose a winner from such an excellent array of entries. A number of the photographs captured the essence of Buckinghamshire including its rural landscapes, historical buildings and its chocolate box villages. The winning image reflected many of the county’s unique qualities and it itself is a stunning shot. Congratulations go to the finalists and I would urge everyone to come along and see the exhibition of all this year’s entries at the Aylesbury Tourist Information Centre.”

The showcase of all of the photographs submitted into the competition is being held at Aylesbury Tourist Information Centre, located in The Kings Head, off Market Square.
