Visit AVDC’s marquee at this year’s Bucks County Show and find out more about the unique role the council plays at the heart of Aylesbury Vale’s communities, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The AVDC exhibition provides an ideal opportunity to discover more about the hundreds of ways the district council is working to improve the quality of life for the people of Aylesbury Vale.

The marquee will be packed full of displays from a variety of council services and there will be children’s competitions, music and magic throughout the day. Staff from the council will be available to offer advice and information and listen to your suggestions and comments about our services.

With Aylesbury Vale perched on the brink of a very exciting period of economic growth and re-development, a colourful exhibition inside the marquee will provide information about the many new developments planned for the district. Visitors to the marquee will be able to find out more about the housing plans for the Vale and what changes will take place in Aylesbury town centre over the next few years.

Continuing the growth theme, a new community plan which aims to improve the quality of life for people in Aylesbury Vale will be available at the event. This plan has been drawn up by the Vision 2031 Partnership, which includes representatives from AVDC, Buckinghamshire County Council, Thames Valley Police and health, business and voluntary sector organisations.

The three-year plan is organised around six key themes to reflect the partnership’s priorities. They are communities, economic development, environment, health and wellbeing, housing and transport. Among the targets in the plan are to:
• Aim to reduce crime by 15 per cent by 2008
• Achieve an increase of 1900 jobs in the district by 2008
• Achieve a 30 per cent increase in the recycling rate by 2008
• Build 750 affordable homes by 2008

Copies of the community plan will be available at council offices and libraries in Aylesbury Vale. You will also be able to download the plan from the council’s website.

There are many ways in which everyone can enjoy Aylesbury Vale’s beautiful environment and help to preserve it for generations to come and these can be discovered at the council’s marquee. Staff will be on hand to offer advice and tips on how to reduce waste, recycle more and save energy, and to explain some of the environmental projects that are improving wildlife habitats. There will also be information on how the council tackles litter, abandoned cars and graffiti and what you can do to stop the litter louts.

Aylesbury Vale is a place where new businesses can flourish. The council’s economic development team will be explaining to visitors how new and existing businesses can apply for grants to improve their services and what AVDC and its partners are doing to boost the local economy.

There will also be displays within the marquee giving ideas for great days out in the Vale. Information on local attractions, leisure facilities and National Trust properties will be available, together with details on how the council is improving parks and open spaces in the district.

All this, as well as live Jazz music, competitions, children’s workshops and close-up magic at regular intervals throughout the day, means that the AVDC marquee will certainly be well worth a visit.

Leader of AVDC, Councillor John Carwright, said: “The County Show attracts a wide cross-section of people from Buckinghamshire and is a great opportunity for the council to meet many of those for whom we provide a wide range of services and to show what we are doing to address major issues such as housing, the environment and community safety. We look forward to meeting as many people as possible at the show and sharing our vision for the future of Aylesbury Vale.”

The County Show is being held at Weedon Park, near Aylesbury, on Thursday 31 August. For further information and tickets, please call 01296 330559.
