Do you know someone who goes out of their way to help others? Someone who works hard on behalf of their community? Well here’s your chance to pay tribute to the unsung heroes in our midst.

Nominations of people in Aylesbury Vale who have made a difference to the community are needed for AVDC’s Volunteer of the Year Award.

Anyone, of any age, no matter how young or old, who has made an important contribution to their local community in a voluntary capacity is eligible for nomination. The only condition being that the nominated person must live or work within the Aylesbury Vale area and provide a voluntary service to a local community in the district.

It may be a good neighbour who you would be lost without. Or someone who devotes their time to community service with no thought of reward. Perhaps you know someone who gives up their spare time to run a youth or sports club or who campaigns to make your street a nicer place to live?

Councillor John Cartwright, Leader of the Council, said: “The efforts of many people in our community go unnoticed too often. This award is just a small way in which the council and people of Aylesbury Vale can recognise and thank the many volunteers that provide an invaluable service to the community.”

The winner will be chosen by a judging panel chaired by Councillor Pam Pearce, Cabinet Member for Community Matters. They will then be invited to attend a special awards ceremony in November to mark their achievements.

The closing date for nominations is 30 September 2006. Nominations can be made on a nomination form available on the council’s website.

Nomination forms are also available from the council’s area offices and leaflet stands. If you would like a nomination form posted to you, please contact Alice Fisher on 01296 585041.
