A new temporary cark park right in the heart of Aylesbury will be open to the public on Monday 21 August.
Located on the site of the former Bucks Herald and Wilkins Solicitors offices in Exchange Street, the 110-space Bear Brook car park will be available to visitors, shoppers and non-permit holders.
The long stay car park will be open every day and will be available for evening use, with charging hours starting at 8am and ending at 6.30pm. It will cost £3 to use the car park, with free entry after 6.30pm. Parking is free all day on Sunday.
Bear Brook car park has been opened in preparation for the future development of Walton Street car park, where a new 515-space multi-storey car park is to be built. Building work is expected to start in the autumn.
Subject to planning permission, a new theatre and entertainment centre will be constructed on the site of Bear Brook car park next year.
Councillor Val Baxter, Cabinet Member for Asset Management, said: “The temporary car park has been opened to ensure there are enough parking spaces in the town centre for shoppers and visitors when the Walton Street works get underway. Bear Brook car park is ideal for the Civic Centre, the cinema, the central library, meetings at the district or county council and, of course, town centre shopping.”
Other long stay council-run car parks include Canalside, Exchange Street, Hampden House, Friarscroft, Walton Street and Walton Green. Existing short stay town centre car parks that shoppers can use include Civic Centre, Hale Street, Upper Hundreds, Coopers Yard and Whitehall Street.
