The magic of the silver screen is coming to a village hall near you – with the start of a new film festival in Aylesbury Vale next month.
Flicks in the Sticks is an exciting new project that gives communities the chance to host their very own film evening at their local village hall or community centre.
The project is a partnership between Aylesbury Vale District Council and local communities and is designed to ensure people living in remote areas don’t have to travel far to enjoy the latest films.
Blockbuster movies, such as Batman Begins, Cold Mountain and The Dukes of Hazzard, will be shown as well as classic films including The Pink Panther movie A Shot in the Dark.
The month-long film festival will roll out to seven rural venues, with screenings planned in the villages of Cheddington, Cuddington, Great Horwood, Swanbourne, Tingewick, Wendover and Wingrave.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “The Flicks in the Sticks project looks set to be a great success. Our packed programme of contemporary and classic films has something for every taste.
“Getting films out to rural areas is a key part of our rural arts programme. We think it is important that we create the opportunity for people to go to the cinema in areas that don’t have the facilities that people in towns enjoy.”
The film festival kicks off at Wendover Memorial Hall on Friday 3 March with a 7.30pm showing of Hollywood thriller Mystic River, starring Sean Penn and Tim Robbins.
The season closes with Batman Begins, one of last year’s biggest blockbusters, starring Christian Bale and Liam Neeson. The film shows on Friday 31 March at Tingewick Village Hall from 7.30pm.
Tickets are priced at £3.50 for adults (£3 in advance) and £2 for Passport to Leisure holders (£1.50 in advance). For further information, follow the link from the home page on the council's website or call the council’s booking line on 01296 585210.
