Local authority capital projects in Aylesbury Vale are set to bring major improvements to council services and the local environment.

Aylesbury Vale District Council this week agreed a programme of capital projects for the next five years totalling £138 million.

Projects have been identified for town centre improvements, social housing, play facilities, car parking and recycling. The programme also includes land acquisition by the council to enable the Waterside scheme to go ahead.

AVDC will continue to play an active role in the promotion and co-funding of social housing throughout the district. Within the approved programme there is £18million allocated for social housing projects over the next five years.

In the leisure sector, funds have been earmarked for improvements to play areas, including improving access for people with disabilities. The playing surface at the Meadowcroft all-weather sports pitch will also be replaced.

Car parks in the district will benefit from a programme of improvements, with £600,000 allocated for repairs to Hampden House car park and £315,000 set aside for the extension of Wendover car park to provide more parking spaces.

Extra money is also proposed for refuse and recycling in the district and £30,000 will be used to kick-start a trial kerbside collection of garden waste, cardboard and coloured recyclable paper in areas of Buckingham and Winslow from March this year.

Councillor Margaret Morgan-Owen, Cabinet Member for Resources, said: “The capital programme sets out how funding is being allocated to take forward the council’s plans. This is a programme which will really improve the lives of local residents and communities and will benefit people of all ages right across the district.

“It will enable us to improve our already first-rate services in many areas: leisure, housing, car parks and refuse and recycling to enable people to have better access to services.”
