Two charities are set to be presented with cheques worth a total of more than £7,000 from the Chairman of AVDC, Councillor Sue Polhill.

The Cancer Care and Haematology Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Ali’s Dream are the charities to benefit and will be presented with cheques for £3,570 each as a result of fundraising by the Chairman of the Council over the past 12 months.

The charities were chosen by Councillor Polhill, and successful fundraising events included a St George’s Day dinner at Aylesbury College and a charity dinner and dance at Hartwell House.

Councillor Polhill said: “I am delighted to have raised this amount of money for these very worthwhile charities. I am very grateful to all those local organisations who have supported the charities, either by helping out with the costs of running the event or by providing fantastic prizes for the raffles and charity auctions.  My sincere thanks, too, to all those people who have attended the various events and given so generously.”

The Cancer Care and Haematology Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital is a specialist centre providing treatment and care for cancer patients. Ali’s Dream is a local charity funding research into childhood brain tumours, set up by the parents of a child who died just before her eighth birthday from such a tumour.

The cheque presentation will take place on 7 July at the Cancer Care and Haematology Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, at 11.30am. Photographers and reporters are invited to the cheque presentation.
