Aylesbury Vale District Council will be keeping residents informed of how essential services might be affected by a one-day strike on Tuesday 28 March, following a national ballot by trade union members to support industrial action.
It is likely that some employees of AVDC will take part in this national dispute over government changes to the local government pension scheme. As a result there may be some disruption to services on the day, such as longer waits at the Customer Service Centre.
However, the council is determined to keep the disruption down to a minimum and to ensure that vital services to those most in need are maintained.
Local people who need to contact the council in the event of an emergency will still be able to do so.
The council anticipates that there will be adequate staff cover on the day for most of its services, but does not yet know the exact number of employees who will be taking strike action.
Everyone who receives refuse and recycling collections on 28 March should continue to put out their household waste and recyclable materials as normal. However, if the council is unable to complete its rounds then any waste or recyclable materials not collected will be picked up on the next due collection date. Community recycling facilities and the civic amenity sites will be open as usual on that day.
Councillor John Cartwright, Leader of the Council, said the council had in place contingency plans to safeguard essential services. He said: “We have been assessing the likely extent of disruption to essential services and also examining contingency measures which may need to be put in place. It’s difficult to be precise about how much disruption there will be but we believe it will be limited for most services. We would advise residents to look at the council’s website or listen out for announcements on local radio stations to get updates on any affects to services.”
The latest information on any affects to services will be posted on AVDC’s website and issued to local press and radio. Details of affected services will also be available from our Customer Service Centre at High Street, Aylesbury, and other area offices.
The Tuesday strike may affect the refuse service in the areas below. The recycling service may also be affected in these areas depending on the week of collection.
