Councillor John Cartwright, the Leader of the Conservative Group, has been re-elected Leader of Aylesbury Vale District Council.

At their annual meeting in the Civic Centre on 10 May, district councillors also appointed the nine other members of the decision-making cabinet.

The cabinet remains unchanged from the last financial year with Councillor Cartwright being supported by Councillor Margaret Morgan-Owen as Deputy Leader.

Councillor Sue Polhill has been re-elected for a second term of office as Chairman of the Council, the official ‘first citizen of the district’, and Councillor Netta Glover was also re-elected as Vice Chairman for the next 12 months.

The annual meeting also appointed the chairmen and vice-chairman of eight council committees.

Councillor John Cartwright, who has been elected for his sixth year in office, said: “We have a lot to be proud of in Aylesbury Vale and I feel very confident about the district’s future. The growth agenda in particular presents a great challenge for us both now and in the future, but it also brings with it opportunities to make Aylesbury Vale a better place to live and work. Waterside is one example of how we are trying to enhance the quality of life for all our residents and I am looking forward to seeing how the scheme progresses over the next 12 months.”

Chairman of the Council, Sue Polhill, said: “It’s a great honour to continue to serve the people of Aylesbury Vale and represent them at so many formal and informal occasions. I will continue to do all I can to highlight the achievements of the Council and the district’s diverse community.”

Vice Chairman of the Council, Councillor Netta Glover, added: “I am extremely honoured to be able to continue as Vice Chairman. My main role will be to support the Chairman with her extremely busy schedule over the coming year.”

Full details of the memberships of all council committees are available on the council’s website.
