An exhibition outlining plans for the long-term growth of Aylesbury Vale is going on display next month.

Everyone with an interest in the future of the Vale is being given an opportunity to comment and influence the long-term planning of the district for the next 20 years and beyond.

The exhibition takes place on Friday 2 June and Saturday 3 June at the Hale Leys Shopping Centre in Aylesbury. Visitors to the event will have the chance to comment on everything from employment and housing to the environment and traffic, in order to make the most of opportunities provided by new growth in the district.

The government requires Aylesbury Vale to expand by more than 20,000 new homes over the next two decades and AVDC is putting together a Local Development Framework, which will include planning policies and locations for this growth.  The council is asking for feedback from the public to help create this development plan.

The council is committed to creating a vibrant and thriving district, with new jobs, schools, hospitals and leisure facilities. The public consultation events will provide a chance for local residents, groups and businesses to get involved in planning for growth in the area, including investment in essential infrastructure and services.

AVDC will take the exhibition to other areas of the district to give as many people as possible the opportunity to have their say. A mobile unit will visit Cornwalls Meadow in Buckingham on 6 June, Market Square in Winslow on 7 June, High Street in Wendover on 8 June and Banks Park in Haddenham on 9 June. All the mobile exhibitions will be open between 10am and 4pm.

All comments received will be carefully considered and the council will use them to help prepare the next stage of the Local Development Framework – the Preferred Options documents. These documents will outline how the council thinks the district should change between now and 2026.

Leader of AVDC, Councillor John Cartwright, said: “The government has set a target of 1,060 homes to be built in Aylesbury Vale each year from 2006 to 2026. The question facing us all is how best to manage this.

“It is vital that we find out the views and priorities of our residents well ahead of any decisions being taken on the Local Development Framework. The views of everyone who responds to the consultation will help us develop a strategy for the whole district and help us plan where growth should be distributed across the Vale.”

There will be booklets available at the exhibitions to supplement the information on display. Inside will be a form of questionnaire which you will be invited to answer, giving you the opportunity to say what you think about all the topics that are raised.

These booklets will also be available at the council’s High Street offices, the Buckingham and Winslow area offices and all libraries in the district. You will also be able to view the booklet on the council's website by  following the link from the home page.

Public comments must be received by 14 July 2006. You can hand in your comments at the exhibition or post them to Forward Plans Group, Aylesbury Vale District Council, FREEPOST (11939), 66 High Street, Aylesbury, HP20 1ZA. Or you can email your comments to avldf@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
