People doing their Christmas shopping in Aylesbury town centre will enjoy the benefits of free parking on Saturdays.
At a meeting of Aylesbury Vale District Council’s cabinet last night (7 November), members agreed to introduce free parking in the town centre car parks on 2, 9, 16 and 23 December.
It is hoped that the free parking will encourage shoppers to visit Aylesbury and alleviate some of the negative impact caused by roadworks in the town.
The council is also supporting late night shopping in Aylesbury with free parking after 4.30pm on Thursday evenings in the run-up to Christmas. There is also free parking on Sundays throughout the year.
Councillor Val Baxter, Cabinet Member for Asset Management, said: “This is something that will benefit shoppers and our town centre traders alike. We want people to choose Aylesbury and free evening and weekend parking should attract those who want to do their Christmas shopping or who may want to enjoy the festive entertainment that our town has to offer. These parking concessions demonstrate again how this council is committed to supporting local traders and businesses.”
