Aylesbury is to have new Christmas lighting displays in the town centre for 2006.
There will be two new cross-street decorations in Kingsbury to boost the impact of the Christmas lights throughout the historic core of the town. The colourful banner-style displays will be hung between buildings at the entrances to Kingsbury from Market Square and George Street.
Three illuminated candle displays will also be provided in the centre of Kingsbury to brighten up even the dreariest of winter evenings. The new lighting displays are designed to be a feature during the daytime as well as during the evening.
The centrepiece of this year’s festive illuminations will again be the Christmas tree in Market Square. There will also be a variety of illuminations and lights around the town centre.
The festive lights are overseen by AVDC. In addition to the lights provided by the council, a number of retailers and businesses will be lighting up their stores for the festive season.
Councillor Val Baxter, Cabinet Member for Asset Management, said: “Making Aylesbury attractive to traders and visitors alike is vital over the Christmas period and we hope these new lighting displays will help to make the town’s illuminations even better this year. The lights will make a spectacular display and are sure to help workers, visitors and shoppers enjoy some seasonal cheer.”
The new displays, together with the other town centre Christmas lights, will be put up between 23 October and 16 November. The official ‘switch-on’ of the Christmas lights in Aylesbury’s Market Square is on 16 November. The event starts at 5.30pm.
