Fancy learning some of the coolest urban dance moves around? Then get yourself down to street dance classes in Aylesbury.
AVDC is encouraging young people between the ages of 8 and 18 to attend hip-hop and breakdancing sessions at Quarrendon Upper School and Walton Court Community Centre during the school term.
Led by professional dancer and choreographer Karen King, from the highly acclaimed dance theatre company ak15, these exciting and challenging classes aim to motivate and encourage young people to participate in dance activities and develop new skills.
Urban moves and breakdancing are some of the most popular dances around and thousands of young people across the country have been taking up this energetic activity over the past few years.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “These classes have been hugely popular as they give young people of all abilities the chance to get fit and have fun. It doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner, everyone is welcome to come along and give it a go.”
The street dance project is run by Aylesbury Vale District Council and supported by the Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes Sports Partnership, Thames Valley Partnership and Active England.
The classes at Quarrendon Upper School take place every Monday (term time only) between 5pm and 6pm for young people aged 12 - 18 years old and between 6pm and 7pm for the performance group. You must attend one of the general classes in order to join the performance group.
Youngsters between the ages of 8 and 12 can attend a dance class at Walton Court Community Centre between 3.30pm and 4.30pm every Wednesday during the school term. There is also a class for young people aged 12 - 18 years old at the venue between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on the same day.
The general classes cost £2 per person, per session, or £1 if you have a Passport to Leisure Card. The performance group classes cost £1 but you can get a 50p discount with Passport to Leisure.
