Visitors who make a trip to a tourist hotspot in Aylesbury Vale will be able to see the work of keen amateur local photographers.
An exhibition of all the entries for this year’s Aylesbury Vale photography competition is currently on display at the Aylesbury Tourist Information Centre, part of the historic Kings Head inn complex.
The district’s annual photography competition invites amateur snappers to send in their best photos of something they have seen in the Vale.
This year’s themes were ‘Historical Aylesbury Vale’ and ‘Leisure Activities in Aylesbury Vale’. A wide variety of images have been received, ranging from the district’s architecture and countryside to heritage and events.
A panel of judges including Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure at AVDC, Tlws Johnson, an Aylesbury Vale Arts Council board member, and the Bucks Herald’s chief photographer, Barry Keen, have been busily scrutinising the entries ready for the prize-giving event on 7 October.
Prizes for the over 16 competition include a night at the luxurious Hartwell House Hotel; £100 Derwent Coach Travel vouchers; a family ticket for Christmas at Waddesdon Manor; a tour of the Chiltern Brewery for two; and bowling at Jardines. Young people under 16 can win £100 of Friars Square shopping vouchers; an annual family ticket to Bekonscot Model Village; a family ticket to the Civic Centre pantomime; and bowling at Jardines.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “We have received some excellent entries for the competition from many talented photographers across the district. Some of the best have been in the under 16s competition, which shows the exceptional creativity of our young people. It has been a real treat to see fantastic images portraying the many varied views and buildings of the Vale. In fact, the standard of entries has been extremely high, which has proven to be a real problem for us judges.”
The photographic competition has been organised by the Aylesbury Tourist Information Centre with support from AVDC and the Bucks Herald.
The exhibition continues until 7 October, and can be seen at normal tourist information centre opening hours, which are 9.30am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday. The tourist information centre is located in the wood panelled old dining room of the Kings Head, off Market Square, Aylesbury.
