Local residents will be given the opportunity to have their say about Aylesbury Vale District Council’s services when questionnaires are delivered to a random selection of households later this week.

The General Satisfaction Survey, ‘Listening to your views’, is being sent out to 3,500 households across Aylesbury Vale as part of a wider, national consultation to identify important issues for councils by looking at the quality of life in different areas.

The survey is largely centred around finding out more about what people value most in their local community and how happy or unhappy they are with the council’s work. Particular subjects that are covered by the survey include: how the council manages anti-social behaviour, quality of cultural and recreational venues and the council’s performance. The survey should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete.

This survey is carried out every three years and the findings are then reported to the government, who publish satisfaction tables for councils across the country. The results are planned to be published nationwide in spring 2007.

In Buckinghamshire, all four district councils and the county council have joined together to co-ordinate the work in order to minimise the cost to the council taxpayer. IpsosMORI, the leading opinion survey company, has been appointed to administer the survey.

Councillor John Cartwright, Leader of the Council, said: “This is an opportunity for residents to have their say about council services and tell us what their main concerns are for the future of their district. I would ask anyone who receives a questionnaire to complete and return it to IpsosMORI in the freepost reply envelope as quickly as possible. We need to know how satisfied residents are with the council and its services so that we can identify any areas that need improvement in the future.

“I would also like to reassure residents that their responses are totally anonymous and will not have any relevance to their contact with any service or individual within AVDC. No-one will call at your door in connection with this survey and if anyone does so, they should be reported to the police.”

IpsosMORI has set up a freephone helpline number for residents to call should they have need any help or advice with the questionnaire, or if they require a translation or large print version, on: 0800 731 8365.
