Classical music fans in Aylesbury Vale will be pleased to hear that some of the UK’s finest musicians will be performing in the district this summer.

More than 750 tickets are now on sale for AVDC’s ‘Music in Quiet Places’ programme, a series of professional classical concerts held in some of the most idyllic local settings.

The varied programme has been put together by artistic director Robert Secret, who is currently the conductor of the Oxford Harmonic Society and Stowe Opera.

The season opens at Nash on 12 May with The Felice Ensemble playing music by composers such as Corelli and Bach at All Saints’ Church, followed on 19 May by a concert at St Mary’s Church in Oakley featuring award-winning soprano Lianne-Marie Skriniar.

On 2 June, popular harp player Rowena Bass will take to the stage to perform music by Debussy and Arnold Bax at St Mary the Virgin Church in Mursley, followed on 9 June by a concert at St Mary’s Church in Marsh Gibbon featuring outstanding French violinist Oliver Bonnici and members of The Orchestra of Stowe.

The season will be rounded off on 23 June with a chamber concert at St Mary the Virgin Church in Weston Turville. All concerts start at 7.30pm.

Before each performance there will be a free guided walk led by a local historian. These walks are available to everyone, not just ticket holders, and set off from the concert venue at 6.30pm.

Lyndsay Elliott, Arts Project Officer, said: “Music in Quiet Places is designed to bring local, rural communities together and is the ideal opportunity to enjoy a professional concert with family and

friends. Some of the most distinguished musicians in the UK are taking part in this year’s programme and the concerts are invariably fantastic experiences.”

Tickets are £6.50 (£2 for under 16’s and Passport to Leisure holders) and are available through local ticket agents and the council’s offices. For more information call 01296 585210 or email arts@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk
