It is now even easier for residents living at a block of flats in Aylesbury to recycle – thanks to the district council.
A new recycling area has opened within the communal grounds of Ridgeway Court so that residents can take along all their paper, cans, bottles and plastics to be recycled.
The residents previously had to travel to their nearest bring sites in Tring Road and Exchange Street if they wanted to recycle their waste. They were keen to set up their own dedicated recycling scheme within the complex and asked Aylesbury Vale District Council for help in providing the containers.
Some communal dwellings in the district have not yet been able to take part in recycling schemes on a widespread basis due to a number of difficulties. Firstly, some people do not have the storage space for the recycling baskets and boxes and second – recycling collection staff would find it difficult to access and collect the materials effectively from residents of multi-floor dwellings.
A solution to this is to provide communal bins for paper, mixed cans, plastic food and drink containers and glass bottles and jars. People can then separate their recycling rubbish by taking it to the containers themselves.
Councillor Sir Beville Stanier, Cabinet Member for Environment and Health, said: “The feedback we have had from Ridgeway Court has been very positive and I hope as many residents as possible use the new recycling area. Residents can now recycle far more easily and will not have to travel as far to their nearest recycling facility. There are dozens of communal recycling areas across the Vale and we want to introduce more to make it easier for people to recycle their rubbish.”
Mary Walsh, a resident at Ridgeway Court, is very pleased with the new recycling scheme. “The recycling area is allowing the residents to recycle their rubbish much easier and the containers are filling up nicely. The scheme is working really well so far and we are all happy with it,” she said.
For a recycling scheme like this to be successful the facility has to be properly managed by residents or resident representatives.
