Hundreds of people are expected to fill Vale Park on 1 and 2 September, when two days of free entertainment is staged to celebrate the end of Aylesbury Vale District Council’s summer programme of activities.
Visitors to the Parklife event in Aylesbury will be able to enjoy a fun-packed day of activities, a spectacular Proms concert and a celebration of world music.
The event will start on 1 September with a full programme of family activities, games and displays. There will be something for everyone from arts and crafts to bouncy castles and sporting events.
Budding young sports people are invited to take part in skateboarding and basketball sessions at the sports zone from 10.30am until 3pm, and there will also be a climbing wall to give young people the chance to try something more adventurous.
A fun day for all the family will take place in the park from 12pm until 4pm. Organised by the Aylesbury Church Network in partnership with Fusion Youth and Community and AVDC, the free event will feature live music, fun inflatable equipment, face painting, a barbeque, cafe and much more.
The Aylesbury Community Concert Band will be keeping their fingers crossed for good weather when they perform at the popular ‘Proms in the Park’ concert on Saturday evening (1 September). Organised by Aylesbury Town Council, the event is free for everyone and starts at 6.30pm with a festival picnic.
The concert will feature talented musicians from across the district performing traditional Proms favourites such as Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem. Audience members are encouraged to make the most of the event by bringing picnics, refreshments and anything which makes their evening as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Music fans can also enjoy an exciting mix of diverse sounds from around the globe for free on 2 September. A host of world music acts from Asia, Africa, Europe and the Americas will be perfoming in Vale Park from 2.30pm until 8pm.
Headlining the event is Netsayi, one of the UK’s most exciting new musical talents. The London-born singer/songwriter and producer has played some of the UK's most prestigious stages including the Hammersmith Apollo, The Queen Elizabeth Hall, WOMAD and the London Jazz Festival. Her debut album, Chimurenga Soul, was released in spring 2006.
Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to spend a lovely summer weekend in the park, with exciting family activities and the chance to experience some of the best musical talent from around the world for free. There is something for everyone to enjoy so we are inviting people to bring along a picnic and take in what promises to be a superb weekend of entertainment.”
