Aylesbury Vale District Council is urging people to comment on a development strategy of major importance for the future of the district.

Members of the public have until 30 August to take part in the latest round of consultation on the council’s Local Development Framework (LDF). The LDF will provide a detailed blueprint for where new homes, shops, businesses and other key facilities will be built up to 2026.

AVDC is inviting the community to have their say on two important documents that will form part of the LDF – the council’s “Core Strategy” and “Aylesbury Allocated Sites” Development Plan Document.

The Core Strategy describes the council’s overall strategic approach to new development in the district up to 2026, including the broad locations for growth across the Vale. The Aylesbury Allocated Sites Development Plan Document outlines the preferred direction of growth for new housing, employment and mixed-use development sites in and around Aylesbury, including the town centre.

The council’s long-term vision involves developing an area of greenfield land to the south of Aylesbury called the Aylesbury Southern Growth Arc. This will consist of around 9,300 new homes and supporting infrastructure between the A41 Aston Clinton Road and the A418 Oxford Road. Planners have also identified Buckingham, Winslow, Haddenham and Wendover as possible locations for the majority of housing growth that will be required in the rest of the district.

The six-week consultation period started on 19 July and local residents have been commenting on the plans online and by post. A consultation exhibition recently held at venues across the district, where people could view the council’s plans and ask planning officers questions about the preferred options, attracted hundreds of visitors.

Councillor Carole Paternoster, Cabinet Member for Planned Development, said: “I would urge residents to make their views known to us before the public consultation comes to an end on 30 August. These issues will affect everyone who lives or works in the district for at least the next 20 years, so it’s important that anyone who wants to have their say on how we grow Aylesbury comes forward now. I can assure residents that every single response received will be read and all issues raised will be considered before the council makes its final decision on the preferred options for growth.”

Residents can see the Local Development Framework documents on the council’s website at www.aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk/LDF or view the plans at the council’s customer service centres in Aylesbury, Buckingham and Winslow, and in local libraries.
