Aylesbury Vale District Council has been re-awarded the coveted ‘Investors in People’ (IiP) standard for the way it develops and supports its employees.
The council has successfully held Investors in People status since 1999. The award is presented to organisations that show they value staff by offering development opportunities and training.
In the re-assessment process around 60 members of staff, at all levels, were interviewed – and their responses were measured against IiP’s national standard.
The official assessor’s report highlighted a number of areas of good practice within the council including:
• Council staff confirmed that they have opportunities to access a wide variety of learning and development opportunities
• Employees feel valued and their contributions are recognised
• The council’s induction system for new members of staff was found to be effective
• Employees confirmed that they are very much in the picture regarding the overall plans and aims of AVDC
• Staff are very aware of the importance of their role – particularly with regard to customers and the community
The feedback from the independent assessment will enable the council to draw up an action plan to further improve its working practices.
AVDC was recently named as one of the best councils to work for in the country. The council was awarded 18th place in the prestigious ‘Best Councils to Work For’ list, published by The Times newspaper, which aims to recognise local authorities that have the best workplaces in the UK.
Councillor John Cartwright, Leader of Aylesbury Vale District Council, said: “We are really proud to have achieved the Investors in People standard again. It is a testament to how hard all our staff work to provide the best possible services for residents across Aylesbury Vale. The people who work for the Vale are undoubtedly its most important asset and we are committed to their welfare and development.”
