Young arts and crafts enthusiasts will be able to show off their artistic skills at a free family event in Aylesbury this weekend.

Junior Art Attack is a chance for children and their families to have fun with their imagination making crafts using a wide variety of art and scrap materials. Much of this material will be household items which cannot be recycled, helping spread the message of reusing objects rather than simply putting them in the bin.

Young people aged five to 13 years old will be able to try their hand at assorted art activities, including making gifts for Mother’s Day, Easter and other special occasions. All materials are provided, and children can take their creations home with them.

One of the highlights of the activities on offer will be a workshop from the “Bag Ladies”, who will be working with a group of young people to create an outfit out of scrap materials. This outfit will be featured at the forthcoming Recycled Clothes Show at the Civic Centre.

Junior Art Attack will take place at the Quarrendon and Meadowcroft Community Centre on Saturday 3 March from 11am to 3pm. The first 200 children through the door will receive a free gift and everyone attending will be entered into a free prize draw for a giant arts and crafts hamper.

The event is organised by Aylesbury Vale District Council, in partnership with the Aylesbury Vale Out of School Network and the Early Years Development & Childcare Service. It is the third annual play partnership event based upon successful TV programmes and follows on from the enormously popular Junior Fit Club and Junior Scrapheap Challenges held over the past two years.

Councillor David Thompson, Cabinet Member for Leisure at AVDC, said: “Play activities arecentral to quality of life for children and young people throughout Aylesbury Vale. They promote physical and mental health, encourage creative thinking and positive attitude to life, as well as being great fun.

“We are committed to working in partnership to develop new play opportunities for young people, and this event is another excellent example of that commitment. It will be really good to see children and their families having so much fun and enjoyment reusing materials in creative ways.”
