TODAY'S heavy rainfall has resulted in high water levels of the River Ouse.
The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings to some homes in Buckingham.
Water levels are expected to peak at around 2.30am Saturday 21 July, and are
expected to be greater than those recorded in 1998, when the town last
experienced serious flooding.
Residents are advised to make arrangements for a possible evacuation. They
are advised to move valuables and as much property as possible upstairs and
to secure their properties. Sandbags can be collected from the Londis store
in Castle Street, Buckingham.
Those most at risk will be contacted and evacuated to a test centre at the
Radcliffe Centre, which will be open from 11pm onwards.
To help prepare for possible evacuation from your home, please follow the
following guidance and advice:
BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME:
- lock up and close your windows
- switch off the electricity
- turn off heating
IF YOU HAVE TIME, BRING WITH YOU:
- some snack food, if it is handy
- any important medicine
- some extra clothes
- disposable nappies, baby food, etc, for your baby
- small toys, books etc., for the children
- a few toiletries, so that you can wash, etc
- basket/cage/food for pets, if you have to bring them
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE CENTRE
- a welcome
- light refreshments
- somewhere to sleep, if necessary
WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT THE CENTRE:
- please give your name and the names of
accompanying family to the staff
- please let the staff know of any help you may
need
- please let the staff know if you intend to
leave the Centre
